On the First Day of Christmas

Last year we were spoiled and had a family secretly surprise us for 12 nights, with gifts and goodies! So this year we decided to return the favor to another family. We talked with the Bishop and he gave us the names and address of a less fortunate family so we can lift their spirits a bit this holiday season.

Tonight was night 1.

Night 1
Twas the first day of Christmas and all through your house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
'Cept suddenly one little soul did appear,
It is your Christmas friend bringing you holiday cheer.

Tonight calls for a partridge for your pear tree,
But partridges are tough catches, you see.
Now, how 'bout some pears, instead of the bird.
Indeed it tastes good, or so we have heard.

Along with the pears, we thought a tree would be nice.
Put it together only once and not twice.

With tonight and each night that follows, take care to watch for
Small pieces my fellows. Put them up safe and up out of reach,
And by the 12th night you will be pleased as a peach.

Tonight the first night, this sign you have been given,
One ring of your doorbell, not six and not seven,
But from every night hence, one ring of your home
Will signal a gift from your own secret gnome.

Now beware of this warning- your friend will be here,
But you better not look , or he'll disappear,
And then all your gifts that were carefully planned
On some other front porch they will surprisingly land.

We left on their door step two cans of pears, a nativity piece, and a brand new artificial Christmas tree for their family. I hope they enjoy this fun time of year and like the gifts that will be arriving o their doorstep. 11more nights to go!
