On The Home Front

...All is quiet here. It is eery when this happens.
Trenton had basketball today, and did very well. He really loves the game.
I am prepping my lesson for tomorrow. It should be interesting, there was not a whole lot to prepare for.
Rex is going to graveyard starting Monday. It is always so different when this happens.
I am : nauseous
         starving
         throwing up
         sore
         beyond exhausted
         VERY moody
         almost 2 months along already
and working very hard in school, at home and with church.

We are planning our vacation to California for the end of March. SO excited. We are going to see my dad and take Rex's mom to Disneyland for the very first time! HOORAY!

That is about it for now. Here is hoping next week is quiet.

Hodge Podge

I have been anti internet lately, so I have slacked on the updates and pictures. I mostly stalk and lurk on Pinterest and play Words With Friends on Facebook and that is about it.

Trenton's 3rd grade concert. He really liked singing traditional songs this year.

Benji, Joe and Rex taking a nice winter's nap.

Our Elf, Chippy, played some pretty neat tricks, but not all were committed to film.

He tied up the boys' shoes and hung them from the dining room light.
A few day earlier, he put their undoes on the ceiling fan. That was a hoot!

Christmas Eve Eve Chippy decorated the living room with lots of lights and garland. It was really beautiful.

Here are the boys in there Christmas eve PJ's. They are wearing them constantly.

There was a big ole' storm last night, but a beautiful sunset before the mayhem commenced.

Christmas was wonderful and quiet. The boys got some awesome goodies and lots of noisy stuff. Rex got me a sewing machine which I am anxious to break in. I have ordered tons of fabric already and I am set to sew.

We are looking forward to 2012... Armageddon or not. :)  I think people are going to get a little nutty this year, but I think it will be great.

This That and Then Some

We survived the first week of school. It is going to be a hectic year, but the boys LOVE school. Trenton thinks 3rd grade is just the best thing ever and Joe was born to go to school. Tuesdays will be a bit nuts, but we will make it work. Joe goes to school at 12:10 then the boys get out of school at 3:10 and then Trenton has to go to scouts at 3:30pm and picked up at 4:30. No biggy though.
My school is going fine so far. I am still not sure of myself with my math class but so far so good and I am pulling an A in the class. My first test in next week.. and I am a bit scared.
We had a fun Boise trip last week and got lots of goodies and odds and ends. We have started Christmas shopping  and have a good start so far. I hope we can be done by next month.
We finished the last hurdle of potty training Ben and he is full fledged in undies 24/7 no accidents.. full on BIG BOY. It is awesome.
Speaking of Mr. Ben... he turns 3 on Thursday ...crazy I tell you!! He is such a cute, sweet and kind hearted little boy. ((Sigh))
Everything else.. is quiet. Not too much going on. I need to enjoy this quiet time before chaos ensues and I am grumbling.
My garden is still going strong and I have TONS of tomatoes. Tons of zucchini and squash, my cucumbers are sub par and I wish I had more so I could make pickles but.. oh well. My artichoke is coming up nicely and I think I am going to plan a lot more next year. I have 2 five gallon buckets of apples waiting to made into apple sauce :) Pears will be on their way soon and I have a TON of canning to do. I love it though. I am looking into getting a pressure canner so I can can soup, meats and veggies. They are spendy little suckers though.
That aside, I must continue on my journey of educational fulfillment.

The Blahs

School (for me) starts Monday. My brilliant professors are slacking on top of things in the matter of posting Syllabuses and required text. I already have to return 3 out of 5 books I bought on Thursday. Oh well, more money in my pocket. I am very excited to get into my Philosophy class and my Cultural Geography class. I am almost done with my Educational Technology class (hooray for teachers who post assignments early!) and Math....well, it's math and how excited can I get over that? Blah

The boys are set for school and I cannot believe my Joe will be in school this year! Crazy...pure insanity.  Boo Hoo.

My allergies have been so bad this year. I am going into the doctor coming up because I have had a hard time breathing. I hope its not asthma. It feels like it though. Blah.

I made peach JELLY yesterday. I have made jams before but never jelly. It was fun and simple.. but boy there is a lot of sugar in jelly. Blah.

Today I am dehydrating apricots for snacks and to make low sugar jam. I love canning, and I have a lot more ahead of me. My tomatoes are going to ripen all at the same time, which is nice. I hope to get about 10+ quarts of  of spaghetti sauce put up this year and 5+ pints of salsa. We will see. Next up will be cucumbers so I can make pickles! Hooray! I love home canned pickles. They are awesome. I am on the hunt for apples and pears and maybe some plums. I have an abundance of apricots that I hope to trade with for the fruit I need. I really want to make my own applesauce this year. ---Not blah

OH! Trenton had dental surgery last Monday. That kid GRINDS his teeth SO bad that he had to get crowns put on his back molars and then have a few baby teeth pulled that weren't coming out on their own. IT was scary, but he did just fine and he feels great. So all Bateman's are perfect in the mouth department now. HOORAY. Excema is rearing its ugly head already though. Blah

I think that is about it for my BLAH post. I hope I can maintain the blog a little more this fall... but we will see.

Thinking

Rex and I are doing some serious pondering... thinking makes my head hurt sometimes.. We are fasting a full fast today and praying lots. I will keep ya updated.

Life is good, my mini vacation has been going well. Lots of canning has been done. Peaches and apricot jam. YUM.  Lots of reading.. BOM and Salt The Roses. It feels good to read. My garden is coming along nicely. I have gotten the house organized well and I feel SO much better! Benji is now only wearing diapers at night time.. WOO HOO!!!

That is all for now! Happy August everyone!

Cool Websites-- 4 Weeks of Freedom List, Updates, and the Power of YES

First of all, I am alive... barley. I honestly think math is going to kill me, but so far I am surviving. These last two weeks of summer school have been awful.

That aside, I have found a fabulous site that has so many yummy recipes and the pictures are so pretty! Check it out! I am catching the canning bug bad this year! I have my list and all my jars, lids, rings and towels out and ready to go! Peaches, pears, pickles, salsa, spaghetti sauce, and jams! Oh so much fun! I am already starting to freeze zucchini that I tend to sneak into many meals with out the picky husband and children knowing! Ha ha ha!!

So my 4 weeks of freedom list is all the things I want to do once summer school is out.

In no particular order here is what I have:

Watch as much Gilmore Girls as possible
Canning
Making and Freezing soups for the winter
Freezing veggies
Gardening
READING!!
Going to the library
Rearranging the kitchen
Cleaning the computer desk
Get 2 kids ready for school (YIKES!)
PAYING OFF AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF DEBT.. can you say awesomeness!!???
Road trip to Boise
Getting ready for fall semester

I am looking forward to fall. It is truly my favorite season of the year and I look forward to it the moment winter hits! I love making pumpkin bread, homemade cider, soups, apple pie, raking leaves.. ahhhh I can't wait!

Life has been upside down crazy busy. Church is always busy, and I hate to say I have fallen short lately as school has taken up a lot of my time. One of my dearest friends who was my first visiting teaching when we joined the church, and never missed a month of visiting, never forgot a birthday  of anyone in our family, always remembered what was important to us and even came to the Temple with us for the first time on her birthday, passed away on Tuesday.  She was only 77, and I say only because she was so spunky, spry and witty. I suppose it was her time. I have been having a hard time with it, harder than I thought I would. I tried going to the funeral today, but couldn't even bring myself to do that. Maybe I will go by myself soon and take some flowers to her . I think it is harder because it has almost been a year since Trenton's little friend Zach passed away tragically last year. ughh.. death is hard on the living.

On a more upbeat note... Mr. Ben is 99% out of diapers! WOO HOO!! He has taken a little longer than the other 2 boys, but each child is different and he has taken to the idea very well the past few months and we are so close to freedom!!!

Rex and I have tried taking on a little bit of a new approach to parenting the past few weeks. A while back I read an article about parents having a harder time saying yes than saying no to their children at times.  This really struck a chord with me, and made a lot of sense. the boys often ask if they can play with the hose and get each other wet, my first response without thinking, is no. It's messy, it's wet, they could fight and get mad at each other.... but really, would it be that big of a problem? True, it might be a bit of a headache for me, but really what is the harm? Saying yes really is harder than saying no a lot of the time. It is so easy to tell the boys no, its fast and effective and saves me hassle from messes and arguments. But saying yes... gives the boys more to do, a bit of slack on the tight leash Rex and I have at times. now don't get me wrong, we are not going around saying yes to their every whim, there are still rules and boundaries, and things that just are not acceptable. "Mom can I have ice cream for dinner.." NO, But if I hear, " Mom can we paint with watercolors outside and make our own lunch to have a picnic and play in the sprinkler?" Yes... It has been a good experience so far :)

So, one more week of math tests and paper writing and I will post lots of pictures and updates!

Blogger Limbo

To quote Alice In Wonderland.. I have lost my muchness. At least for blogging. Summer school is in full swing and it is honestly a lot harder than I expected. Girls camp is Tuesday and it has been a big deal to plan and prepare for. I am actually terrified to leave. I have NEVER left all of my kids for more than 24 hours and I will be gone for 4 days! Crazy.... I suppose it will be a nice vacation though. Trading 3 boys for 15 teenage girls??? Maybe not a vacation :) It will be very very exciting though and we have some awesome stuff planned!!!

Lots has been happening and we are now catching every flu bug and cold you can get in the summer as well, so you can imagine the loads of fun that have been happening in the Bateman house!

Bateman Clan Update

Well, I have tons of pictures to post.... but I need a good free hour to get everything off my memory card in order to post them here.
Life is still in whirl wind mode here and shows no sign of stopping. I have the privilege of getting to t4each a few lessons in Trenton's class coming up soon. I am a little scared but mostly excited.
Rex is off grave yard shift, thankfully! It is nice to have him home all night, I sleep a lot better!
Ben is SO close to being potty trained, and the land of no diapers is within my reach!!

Rex has a big day coming up, on my birthday in fact. He is getting the rest of his teeth pulled on the 22nd, and is getting his dentures. I know, I know, dentures for him already? But he will feel SO much better and it will be easier for him not to have massive dental problems all the time.

I have hit 22lbs lost... wahooo!! It is so much easier this time, and I think it will stay off!!

In the mix of everything else, I have been fighting for the teachers in Idaho. Silly silly laws are being passed here, that devalue our teachers, take away a precious educational experience from our children, and bring in useless items that should be "teaching" our kids in place of real teachers. Anywho, I am on bored to have petitions signed for a recall of our states Superintendent.

That is all for now..... lots more to do! Hopefully pics will be in the near future.

Not Much of Anything

When did I get too busy for my lovely blog? I miss blogging daily and tracking my mundane, yet all important life happenings of the Bateman clan.
School is insane this semester. I am glad I dropped my Government class, otherwise I would be in over my head.
I like school, and I am learning SO much! I really like my classes, they are very interesting and making me wonder how much farther I want to extend my school career. I cannot decide if I want to go for my Masters.. and now I am wondering if I want to emphasize in development and child psychology or speech therapy. Hmmm decisions decisions. I guess I will cross the educational bridge when I get to it.
Young Women's is NUTS right now. Just a few more days of craziness, and then the big show on Sunday. Ughh.
On top of crazy school, and Young Women's planning, I am have been deathly sick.   It hit on Saturday and has finally lifted a tiny bit as of today. I have been useless. I hope my math test went well yesterday.. I was in a big fog.
Rex's graveyard shift is going well, it is so odd not having him home at night and I stay up way too late watching Gilmore Girls, but it works for now.
15 pounds of me have been lost in the last 4 weeks, so that is good. I hope this week I have a loss, I have not touched the elliptical all week.
Let's see....... I am behind on Laundry, Dishes, Dusting, Mopping - you name it, it is NOT cleaned! I have taken lots and lots of naps though.
Trenton has two weeks left of basketball, and then Joe starts next week... and Ben still has a few years before the sports begin, and I am kind of relieved.
Garden planning is in the works and the charts have began to form. FUN!

Hopefully pictures will be included with my next post.

Ahhh Moments

I re-uped our news paper subscription, and boy does it feel nice! I love reading the paper everyday!

Another Ahhhh moment..l Rex started graveyard shift yesterday, and it is not as bad as I thought it would be. We actually have more time together! Very nice.

Busy week ahead of us all. Scruffy is at the vet now, getting neutered, it was sad leaving him this morning. tomorrow is mutual, which means lots of preparing for New Beginnings. I have some homework to do, a math test to take, math class on Saturday, Trenton has basketball Saturday as well, church on Sunday, new Beginnings on Sunday and Super Bowl.. GO PACKERS! Busy busy busy!

Taxes are done ( I love doing our own taxes!) cars are serviced, bills are paid and besides our house, we are DEBT FREE! What an awesome feeling!

2010

2010, where do I begin? This was the most topsy turvy, insane, unexpected, wild and crazy year we have experienced in a LONG time. The year started with a lot of colds and flus, and Rex really not enjoying his time at Cactus Pete's and we were planning for them to let him go at any time. In March, Rex had enough and left the company. It was a big leap of faith for us, but we had saved and planned for the day. I went to work at Merry Maids part time, and Rex was able to get unemployment. It was humbling for me to work, and though I did not enjoy the job, I learned to appreciate the work and the time it took to make a living. Trenton turned 7 in May.. which was crazy!! He finished up 1st grade with flying colors and we left for an adventure to Seattle the last day of school. How we managed a vacation for the first time in MANY years while one of us was working part time is beyond me, but we did it. Seattle was great. We saw family, the big city and my favorite, FORKS!! It was a great trip. After Seattle, we came home to a wet and rainy Idaho. My garden and many others' did not fair well this season. 4th of July was great! Rex celebrated his 30th birthday! I enrolled in school and we began Temple lessons and prepared to go to the Temple in August. It was a wonderful and magical day that will stay with our family forever. We had very special people with us and a wonderful get together after. Our good friend Jeff even came in from San Francisco to join in our celebration. School started for me, and Trenton started the 2nd grade. School was great for me and I loved that I was back in the swing of it. September came,Benji turned two and it also meant another vacation for us, to help celebrate the wedding of our dear friends Jeff and Vicki. Rex has just started his new job at Home depot, so we were able to take some time and head to see my Dad and Tony in Hesperia, and then a surprise trip to DISNEYLAND!! It was so much fun!!!!! The boys had a blast and we hated to leave the next day to San Fransisco. We made it to the Golden Gate, and from there on out it was CRAZINESS. Rush rush rush and go go go. The wedding and reception were wonderful and it was great to be a part of their special day! We were exhausted when we got back, but we made it, and loved being home! After our vacations- life mellowed out and e had a great General Conference, Halloween was fun, and then the world got tipped upside down. they changed all of the wards and created the 10th ward. It was a hard transition, but we are happy with the changes now. I am young women's secretary, and love my girls!! I finished up school, and made the Dean's list, and Trenton made it to 100 AR points before Christmas break. Joe turned 5, which I still am coping with. We were able to provide a lot for other around us this year, and we had an amazing Christmas! That about sums it up. I never in a million years would have expected a year like this one! A job lost, school started, 2 vacations, ward changes...... it was just plain nuts!!
I hope 2011 is a good year for our family and all of yours!! Happy New Year!!

Monday Madness!

Wow today was crazy!! Rex was off today, so we went and bought all the goodies for the family we will be doing 12 days of Christmas for. We got their names yesterday, and we are so excited! They are a less active family, and on hard times right now, so something like 12 days of fun surprises will be a nice pick me up for them. There was a lot of stuff to buy though! man oh man! We shopped til we dropped today.
Then... Trenton brought home his amazing report card! Straight A's and the cherry on top of 100% in math!! We are so proud of him. He is working so hard this year. I love it.
Then, off to FHE with the Lloyds, and tons of fun! We decorated cookies and as usual had a nice chat. I am exhausted. I have lots of school work to finish up and lots of Young Women's stuff to get started. Busy busy week.
OH and we have to plan Joe's birthday. I cannot believe he will be 5 next Monday. It's just nuts!

Pics, Waiting and Plans for Christmas

Poor Benji has had a head cold that has been very draining on him... as you can see. He is such a happy guy, even when he is sick!

The boys and I had a Toy Story Marathon! 1,2 and 3! we broke out the blankets, popcorn, and Toy Story popcorn buckets. They LOVED it! They sat through all of them too (mind you with wiggle breaks in between)

They are starting to hand out callings in our new ward.. and I know what ever happens, happens, but I am anxiously awaiting a phone call! They called the Relief Society already, and have mutual planned for this week.. so we will see. I am just excited for the changes that will be taking place and seeing everything unfold.

Heeeee Heeeee..... oh does the Bateman Clan have plans for Christmas!  We, as a family, are planning on some special things within our ward. I cannot say much, but it will be FUN!

Friday Five

1. Trenton to me : when i walk home its like a half a mile!

Me: not its not Trenton, its 2 blocks, that is not even a quarter of a mile.

Trenton: Oh. maybe it is more like a penny of a mile then.

2. I am entering a cookie baking competition! Maybe... it sounds like fun though!

3. I successfully planned out 31 meals, bought them all, and have them written down on the calendar. We saved a TON of bucks this month!

4. I have all my goodies to make a big old Thanksgiving dinner. I love making holiday meals!

5. The boys are doing great and I love them to pieces! Trenton is soaring in school, Joe is so ready to take on Kindergarten, and Ben is excelling as a 2 year old in all aspects (talking, shapes, colors, counting and more) ! We are so blessed!

Bateman Clan Update

What a week. I registered for school and the verdict is in... 15 credits next semester. I don't think it will be too bad.
My Grandmas is in the hospital and the details are a bit fuzzy, but they think she is getting better. That alone has had me in knots, and stressed to the hilt. We hope she gets to come home tomorrow.
Rex got his official memo that he is off of temp. status at Home Depot and now a regular employee which means... BENEFITS!! Woo hoo!! I already have appointments made!
Trenton will be starting piano lessons soon! I am excited for him. I also informed all the boys they are taking lessons as soon as the hit 7 and they cannot quit until they can play two hymns from memory. I am evil...... but, I think it will be a great skill for them to all have no matter what.
Joe has been picking up on great writing skills lately and tries to copying any type of writing he sees on his doodle pad. It is great!
Ben is still potty training. It has taken longer because we cannot stay home as much as we did before when the older two were training. That makes a HUGE difference. He has got it down though and we have jsut a couple accidents here or there through the days.
Trenton and I are reading the Book of Mormon together. I challenged him to read it all the way through before he gets baptized. It is going well and we are on 2nd Nephi now, in just 2 days. Not too shabby. We take turns reading and he is loving it.
I am excited for Sunday. I think we only have sacrament meeting for this week and maybe the next. They have not organized everything yet, and I am sure it takes some time. It will still be neat to be in a new building with new people, and a new bishopric.
Christmas shopping is only a few items away from being done!! I am so excite about that! We should be completely done by Black Friday. Then bring on the cookies, gingerbread houses, cards, decorating and fun!! I cannot wait!
That is all for now. I hope next week is a little better.
HUGS to you Liz and you whole family!! You are all in our prayer.

1. I am at peace with the changes that will be coming our way on Sunday, and know it is for the best. I am actually a bit excited now!

2. We find out TODAY how Trenton's pumpkin did in the contest.

3. WE ARE ALMOST DONE CHRISTMAS SHOPPING!!!!! SCORE!

4. I am starting to make blankets, and I like it! Not much on the sewing aspect.. but it is a start.

5. I got a 100% on my final project for my Education class. ( I was a suck up and got it done WAY early) I loved writing it, so it was a piece of cake.

Happy Friday to you all!

Benjamin is now 9 months old! He is now clapping when ever he sees food, waves hi to everyone , loves to pull up on the couch, and is getting the crawling thing down pat! He goes in for his 9 month well check next week and i will have his exact measurements, but I know it will be BIG! He is wearing 12 month clothes already !! He gets his own little plate at dinner now too and has yet to meet a food he does not like. He loves feeding himself crackers and cheerios now and loves Gerber yogurt bites.

Changin'

Just in the past 3 days, life has seemed to change dramatically in the Bateman house! Just some changes that will make all our lives different. I don't like being so cryptic, but this change is something that will probably inflict some dramatic reactions. I am so excited and so happy though!
Evasiveness aside, Ben is starting to crawl, and now is sporting 8 teeth! Geesh kid, craving some steak or something??
Rex and I are still losing weight, a bit slower now but in a healthy manner. I will update our weight loss blog next week, as we are only weighing in bi-weekly.
Trenton is almost done with school. We are getting to go on a field trip Thursday to a Green House, a fiesta on Friday to celebrate Cinco De Mayo, the raffle is ending soon (Trenton has sold over 100 tickets already! ), concerts and Trenton's graduation! May is going to be a busy month!
Not much to report with little man JoJo. He is same old same old. Learning more and more everyday! Oh! He was a sweet heart the other day and came in with a sock filled with quarters! I thought it to be odd...He slammed them down on the desk and said "I want this many tickets for Trenton" (raffle tickets) I asked if he was sure, and that he could buy a few and save the rest, but he argued and said all of it! we counted it out and there was $8 worth! So Joe himself bought 8 tickets. I thought it was really sweet!
That is about all for now. Hope everyone is well!

This and That Post

Things are so busy around here. SO many things to blog, so little time!!
Benjamin update- he is almost 7 months old now! He hates being on his back or tummy, so he will probably not crawl (like Trenton) He loves to sit up though and loves his walker (which he wheels around where ever he pleases now) and loves his Johny Jump Up. He has 7 teeth now. He just got in 3 over the last week!! YIKES!!

Trenton update- Poor guy had to get a tooth pulled due to the dentists error last time of trying to give a 5 year old a root canal (dumby head) he was a trooper though! We had a meeting with his teacher last week, and he is now at a 8 year old reading level and is soaring in everything except coloring. He hates to color. He is selling raffle tickets this week too! He is a good little sales man to boot! He talked my grandma into buying 10 instead of 5. Silly man.

Joe update- Joe is my helper man for sure! Puts his dishes away everyday. Helps me with laundry and cleaning and all the meals. He is writing his name now and working on drawing shapes. I am so proud of how far he has come!

Rex and I have been busy bees as well. Rex is no longer having to work graveyard so that's a plus! I have been getting to scrap book after ages of not having time or room! My neighbor and new friend Ann invites me over to scrap on her HUGE dining room table! It is great! The bathroom is coming along. We hit a standstill due to not being able to make it to the dump until Thursday. But we have a lot ordered and ready to install! We saved about 150.00 on our sink faucet and shower and tub faucet through Amazon. The sink was originally 120.00 (we got it for 55.00) and the shower and tub faucets were originally 160.00 ( we got it for 73.00!) So exciting finding great deals!

Quick Update

We had a SUPER busy weekend! Rex had to go into work on his day off for a meeting Friday ( surprise surprise!) and it marked the day of Trenton's first sleep over. He did great! We actually ended up visiting with our neighbors half the night. (Side note: Trenton slept over at the neighbors house) The next day was ANOTHER birthday part in the evening. So while we waited for that party to start the neighbors invited us over for a BBQ. It was really fun. we never really expected to really be friends with them or hang out at any point, we always thought the kids were friend sand that was that, as we are VERY different people. But it turns out we all get along very well and are learning a lot from each other. Our new found acquaintances followed along to Hop 2 It to play and for Trenton to go to his party there as well. I was pooped after, but Rex was all bouncy and full of energy so he invited them over to watch Twilight. Lots of pausing and settling toddler arguments but fun! It was a long day though!
Yesterday the boys and I faced a 2 hour power outage, in 30 degree weather. It was chilly. We made the best out of it though and cuddled up in blankets and read about 30 different story books!
Today is the beginning of another busy week. Tonight is family meeting night, library night, Rex has to go to bed early due to working another graveyard shift and we have to get ready for Family Fun Night at Trenton's school on Tuesday. He is sooo excited. It should be fun!
I think I covered everything in the land of the Bateman Clan. Oh yeah, our bathroom situation is going to be assessed by our insurance soon and then the work begins.

Dishwasher has been packed full of plate the past 3 days. Just plates and silverware.
